Organisers of the International Conference on Alternatives and Simulation in Education
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was the setting for the International Conference on Alternatives and Simulation in Education, a satellite event to the 13th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences, held on 30th August.
A full day of presentations and discussions looked at education through the use of humane tools and approaches, particularly in higher education for biology, medical and veterinary medical students. As well as practical discussions of synthetic, 3D-printed models and AI, there were talks on conscientious objection to animal experiments in education, accounts from former workers in animal labs on the personal impact of animal use, and training, networking and funding for New Approach Methodologies (NAMs).
A combination of presentations in Portuguese and English, with presenters and attendees from around the world, there was also an interactive exhibition with hands-on demonstrations. Organised by a coalition of of organisations including InterNICHE, CAAT and Ombion, there was huge enthusiasm for all of the sessions,
We introduced the launch of Lush Prize 2026 and discussed in particular the Training Prize, which supports individuals or organisations involved in training others in non-animal research and testing methods.
The Program and Abstract books for the Conference are available on the InterNICHE website.
