New Lush Prize report – The UK as a leader in new approach methods for safety science
Lush Prize has produced a new report entitled ‘The UK as a leader in new approach methods for safety science’ . The report’s objective is to provide an evidence-based overview of how the legislative bans on animal testing for cosmetics, phased-in across the EU between 2009 and 2013, pioneered the scientific development and use of a variety of non-animal approaches, now accepted as the way forward in safety assessment for the cosmetics industry.
Furthermore, the report describes how the principles of the legislative framework which the cosmetics bans provide can be applied to ensure animal-free safety and protection across other regulatory sectors, including industrial chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals and more.
The report was prepared a Parliamentary reception on 12th November 2024 hosted by Lush Cosmetics. The theme of the event was ‘Pioneering replacing animal testing with human-relevant science’ and included a number of industry experts showcasing their work in advanced non-animal methods and engaging with attendees. The reception event was very well attended by Ministers and MPs, demonstrating the high level of interest in the issue.
