Lush Prize activities during November 2024

November was a busy month for the Lush Prize team. On 5th November we attended a UK Parliamentary reception hosted by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Bob Blackman MP on ‘A Roadmap for Non-Animal Science in the UK’. PETA are previous Lush Prize winners and promoted their Research Modernisation Deal at the event which was well attended by  a number of parliamentarians and policymakers.

On 12th November, the team was pleased to be involved in parliamentary activity again, this time for a reception hosted by Lush on ‘Pioneering replacing animal testing with human-relevant science’. At the event our new report, ’The UK as a leader in new approach methods (NAMs) for safety science’, was circulated, which describes how the bans on animal tested cosmetics could be used as a framework to phase out all regulatory tests on animals. This was another event which was very well attended by Ministers and MPs, demonstrating the high level of interest in the issue.

On 19th November, Lush held an event in London to celebrate their ‘£100 million giving’ donations milestone, which Lush Prize attended. The Lush Prize is operated by Ethical Consumer Research Association and funded by Lush Cosmetics and since its launch in 2012, has awarded almost £3 million in funding to scientific, training and campaigning initiatives to fund new, animal-free approaches.

As 2024 comes to an end, Lush Prize continues its activities on the way forward in roadmap engagement and the transition away from animal use in research, testing and education, in the UK, EU and worldwide. More activities are planned into 2025.
